What Owaisi Said About India’s Suspension of the Indus Treaty After the Pahalgam Attack

Following his participation in the all-party meeting convened by the government in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Asaduddin Owaisi emphasized the need for decisive action against Pakistan and welcomed the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.

He praised the decisions made by the Cabinet Committee on Security on Wednesday.

“While it is commendable that the Indus Water Treaty has been suspended, we must consider where we will store the water… We stand behind any resolution the central government decides on… This transcends politics,” he remarked.

“The central government must act against the nation that harbors terrorist organizations. International law supports our right to impose an air and naval blockade against Pakistan in self-defense and to enforce arms sanctions. Why wasn’t the CRPF deployed at Baisaran meadow?… Why did the quick response team take an hour to arrive, and why did they identify victims by religion?” he questioned.

He urged that “misinformation” targeting Kashmiris and Kashmiri students must end…

“I condemn the manner in which the terrorists enforced religious identification before killing their victims…” he stated.

The all-party meeting also saw the presence of notable figures such as Union Minister and BJP National President JP Nadda, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Congress President and MP Rahul Gandhi, along with other significant leaders.

In a tragic incident on Tuesday, terrorists targeted tourists at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, resulting in the deaths of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, as well as numerous injuries, marking one of the deadliest assaults in the region since the 2019 Pulwama attack, which claimed the lives of 40 CRPF personnel.
